Pocoyo

Having a small child can subject you to the most excruciatingly painful television programs. The patience of a saint is needed to put up with some of the trippy shows out there.

The one surprise though is Pocoyo. A 'claymation' type production that really is pleasant to the eye as well as the nerves. The design of the show is very simple with bright colored characters and a starck white backdrop with the occasional prop that looks like Karim Rashid had a part in.

What's even better is that each episode clocks in under 5 minutes which quite honestly, leaves you wanting more.

Hidehito Shinnou

An exhibition is currently taking place for Designer Hidehito Shinnou until the 28th of February in Sapporo, Japan.

FreshFruits

Author Shoichi Aoki continues his documentation of the amazing street fashion scene in Japan with his follow-up to Fruits that is appropriatley called, Fresh Fruits.

I came accross the book this past Fall and was instantely hooked. It's a great reference to have kicking around to jump start the creative juices. A must have for the studio.

Azure does Inventive

If you get a chance, snag the latest copy of Azure magazine. They're doing a feature on 'North Americas most Inventive Industrial Design'.

Included in the article will be the amazing $100 laptop which has made it's rounds on every blog site out there, but rightfully deserves as much attention as possible.

Hot Bearings

Last year when I was doing some research for a project I came accross this great packaging for skateboard wheel bearings from Toy Machine. It's a product that really is made for a very specific demographic, but the way they package it makes it easy for wannabes like myself to take notice and pick up a pack.

I really have no use for bearings, but honestly who cares with slick marketing like this ?

Toy Machine

Some new deck designs from Toy Machine for the 2006 season. They have an amazing assortment from previous years that are well worth the time to look through.

Peugeot - Moovie

Coming to a spacestation near you is the latest concept vehicle from Peugeot called Moovie. It really is an amazing design, but i'm not expecting to see it on the roads anytime soon. Not exactly the type of car you want to be T-boned in.

Check the site out for a movie on ....err....Moovie.

Wired does Lego

The lastest issue of Wired has a great article on how toy giant Lego put a call out to their fans to help them develop their programmable robotics kit, Mindstorms.

McCarty Photoworks

"The photographs and photo-illustrations of McCarty PhotoWorks are like no others".

That opening statement on photographer Brian McCarty's website hits the nail on the head. If you've followed the Urban Vinyl scene, chances are you've seen Brian transform the products into living, breathing creations.

Check out the rest of PhotoWorks portfolio. You will not be disapointed.

Canadiana

Great bit of Canadiana from the helmut of Olympic Skeleton athlete, Duff Gibson who's competing at the winter games in Torino.

c l e a r

I just recently had my first look at fashion mag clear, which quickly lead to a yearly subscription. The overall presentation is great, especially the last third of the mag which is dedicated to architectural / product design.

The collection of big and bold images inside clear really is candy to the eye.

Art Propaganda

I've always been an admirer of old propaganda posters, not for their message but more so for their visual punch. The bold and bright colors along with the attractive font styles make it impossible to ignore like these 2 gems from the old Soviet regime that I came accross here.

Tokyoplastic Orchid

Available through playlounge is Tokyoplastic's amazing Orhid print set. Limited to a one off print run at approximately 12" x 24".

Toyota CS&S

Holy crap this is a hot car! It's the new Toyota CS&S sports car.

Check out Yanko Design's article from yesterday. All I can come up with is 'holy crap'.

Editors - singles

I haven't 'geeked' out on a band in ages, but the UK's Editors is really spending alot of time in my stereo. That's right I said it....stereo, not i-pod.

Seattle station KEXP has also caught the bug enough to track down rare b-sides from the band that are infact better than the a-sides that made their debut The Back Room. So I hopped online and ordered a bunch of singles with a few of these extra tracks that once recieved and listened through was well worth it.

Their debut has only been available as an import but is slated for a North American release in April.

I did a review on their debut here.
